Tesla recalls more than 2 million of its vehicles

Tesla is recalling over 2 million vehicles, including models Y, S, 3, and X, to fix a flaw in its Autopilot system. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) conducted a yearslong investigation, finding that the Autopilot system’s built-in safety measures are at times inadequate and “can lead to foreseeable misuse of the system.” Despite Tesla’s claim that vehicles are more safe “when Autopilot is engaged than when not engaged,” the NHTSA has investigated 35 crashes since 2016, involving 17 fatalities, related to Tesla’s Autopilot system. The recall includes a required software update to address the Autosteer function and enhance driver alerts.
