President Joe Biden is set to be Morehouse College’s speaker for the 2024 commencement. The 46th president is expected to speak on May 19th at the College’s Century Campus. Morehouse invited Biden last September.
The invitation extended to President Biden has not been without its share of controversy. Some students, faculty, and alumni, critical of Biden’s handling of the Israel-Hamas war, have voiced their concern and called for the school to rescind the invitation. However, Morehouse officials said they “eagerly anticipate” Joe Biden’s visit and speech.
The White House deputy press secretary said that Joe Biden looked forward to speaking at Morehouse and stated, “Commencements are about the graduates, their families, and their loved ones, about celebrating the accomplishments of the graduates.” The school will also present the president with an honorary doctorate at the 2024 commencement.
