Dr. Kimberlee Wyche-Etheridge, Assistant Professor at Meharry Medical College’s Department of Pediatrics and a Primary Care physician at Meharry’s Pediatric Clinic, has been honored with the RISE Health Care Hero Award at The RISE Summit on Social Determinants of Health in New Orleans. This prestigious award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to improving the lives of underserved populations through healthcare and social services interventions, with a focus on promoting health equity.
In her acceptance speech, Dr. Wyche-Etheridge shared a personal story about her younger brother, George, whose premature birth and subsequent health complications inspired her career in medicine. Driven by the desire to ensure that every family has the opportunity for their babies to thrive, she has dedicated herself to addressing inequities and disparities in healthcare.
Dr. Wyche-Etheridge’s nomination highlighted her extensive work supporting underserved populations, including initiatives such as a fatherhood program, state-policy advocacy, health equity training, community health events, and programs aimed at empowering girls of color in STEAM fields. Her commitment to making a difference in the lives of those most in need exemplifies her dedication to fulfilling her purpose and advancing health equity.
