Virginia State University makes history as the first HBCU chosen to host the prestigious 2024 FIRST Chesapeake District FIRST Robotics Competition Championship. The competition allows young technologists to test their robots’ abilities by completing complex tasks.
The university plans to welcome students, educators, and robotics enthusiasts across the region. More than 4,000 people are expected to attend the event. Lorin Sodell, a director at the university’s College of Engineering and Technology, stated, “These opportunities create excitement and energy for young people to pursue STEM careers and are especially important for students from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds.” The event has helped many students become confident leaders, engineers, and scientists.
VSU College of Engineering and Technology will partner with local schools and community organizations to ensure a successful event. The event is free and open to the public at the VSU Multi-Purpose Center on April 4-6 from 9AM to 5PM.
