Tupac Shakur’s estate has threatened to sue Drake over his recently released track “Taylor Made Freestyle.” The rapper used an AI-generated version of Tupac’s voice. A cease-and-desist letter from Shakur’s estate said it was “deeply dismayed” by the track and would have “never given its approval.” The estate calls Drake’s song a “blatant abuse” of Tupac’s legacy. Shakur’s estate has called for the removal of the track from all platforms.
If Drake does not comply, the estate will pursue legal action. The estate is also seeking damages, including potential profits from the record and any harm the track might cause to Tupac’s reputation. In a letter, Tupac Shakur’s estate wrote, “The unauthorized, equally dismaying use of Tupac’s voice against Kendrick Lamar, a good friend to the Estate who has given nothing but respect to Tupac Shakur and his legacy publicly and privately, compounds the insult.” Tupac’s mother, Afeni Shakur stated that she was “disappointed that Drake used Tupac’s voice in the record.” A representative for Drake has declined to comment.
