Stormy Daniels to testify today as Trump’s hush money trial resumes

Donald Trump’s hush-money trial continues in New York today with the third week of witness testimony. Despite the defense’s objections, prosecutors are expected to call Stormy Daniels, the adult film star at the center of the trial, to the stand today. Daniels received $130,000 in “hush money” payment, to keep her from going public about her alleged affair with Trump before the 2016 election.

The payments Trump made to Michael Cohen, which prosecutors allege was reimbursement for paying off the adult film star ahead of the election, are at the heart of the 34 charges of falsifying business records. Yesterday, two longtime Trump Organization employees walked the jury through the financial documents tied to the reimbursement.

Judge Juan Merchan again cited former President Donald Trump yesterday for violating the gag order he imposed on the trial. Merchan previously found that Trump had violated the gag order in nine other instances and fined him $9,000. In issuing that decision, Merchan warned Trump that continued violations of the order could result in incarceration.

The first witness of the day was Sally Franklin, who works with Penguin Random House, which published several of Trump’s books. Legal analysts believe that Franklin has likely been called to testify to evidence in the book written by former President Donald Trump, “Trump: How to Get Rich”.
