Winston-Salem State University Makes History with First-ever Female Chancellor

Winston-Salem State University is making history by appointing a woman as chancellor. After many rounds of interviews, the school decided that Bonita Brown was the best person for the job. Brown succeeds former chancellor Elwood Robinson as she takes the helm as Winston-Salem State’s 14th chancellor.

The university’s new chancellor has an impressive resume. Bonita Brown has experience working at multiple universities and understands how to handle Winston-Salem State’s challenges. She is familiar with the community, having been born in Forsyth County and raised in Davidson. Both of Brown’s parents attended Winston-Salem State. Brown’s new role is a historic first for the university, and the new chancellor told the media that she understood the weight of her position. She stated, “I’d like to think I will be an example and inspiration for others.”
