Tuskegee men’s basketball coach Benjy Taylor filed a lawsuit against Morehouse College and two campus police officers after being handcuffed and escorted off the court following a January 31 game.
According to his attorneys, Taylor approached officers during a tense postgame moment to request help clearing the court, citing safety concerns and conference rules. Instead, he was detained, though he was not charged with any crime.
The incident, which gained national attention after a video circulated online, will be the focus of a civil rights lawsuit led by prominent attorneys, who argue Taylor was unjustly treated while attempting to de-escalate the situation and protect players.
