Nationally televised MEAC/SWAC Challenge draws in nearly 1 million viewers making it the 2nd most watched game

During Week 0 of the college football season, the annual MEAC/SWAC Challenge, featuring Jackson State’s victory over South Carolina State, was the second-most watched game. The game attracted an average of 922,000 viewers and received a 0.57 TV rating on ABC. Only the Notre Dame vs. Navy game, aired on NBC earlier in the day, had a higher TV rating. For comparison, last season’s game between Alabama State and Howard, televised on ESPN, drew 485,000 viewers and a 0.26 TV rating. The UMass vs. New Mexico State game on ESPN ranked third in viewership for Saturday games, drawing 582,000 viewers.
