Morgan State University Journalism Students to Leverage AI Technology for Sports Reporting

Morgan State University’s School of Global Journalism and Communication wants to advance traditional sports reporting by leveraging artificial intelligence. The school is partnering with its Center for the Study of Race and Culture in Sports and the University’s Center for Equitable AI and Machine Learning Systems to change how the university produces sports content.

Morgan State will use AI to develop post-game sports content, which includes AI-generated video news reports and automated box scores. The school plans to partner with JRSportsBrief Productions to create AI content. Edward Robinson III, a Professor of Practice at the Center for the Study of Race & Culture in Sports, and Ganiyu-Adewumi, a graduate student, will oversee the AI-generated sports project. Robinson said he looked forward to working on the project and believes AI can “transform the sports media landscape.” In recent years, AI has made significant advances and is now used across many industries, including sports. Morgan State plans to integrate sports journalism with AI tools to deliver unique sports coverage to its audience.
