Meharry Medical College Collaborates with Local Schools to Offer Hands-On Science Experiences

Meharry Medical College is partnering with local middle and high schools to inspire students to engage in science through workshops, summits, and events. As the largest private, historically Black academic health training center in the U.S., Meharry aims to provide hands-on science experiences for K-12 students.

The college recently hosted the 5th annual Black Male STEAM ( science, technology, engineering, art, and math) Summit. The event featured interactive activities designed for high school and undergraduate students.

Throughout the year, Meharry hosts initiatives like #GOALS, a science day field trip for middle schoolers, and collaborates with Isaiah T. Creswell Middle Magnet School to highlight science’s connection to the arts.

Additionally, Meharry offers paid internships through the mayor’s office and organizes STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) summits for Black males and females. These programs connect students to future opportunities, helping to create a pipeline of talent for the college.

The Tennessee-based HBCU was founded in 1876 by Samuel Meharry along with four of his brothers.
