One of the biggest storylines during the NFL offseason has centered around the ownership future of the Seattle Seahawks.
Fresh off of winning the Super Bowl in February, the Seahawks came onto the market at a time when they could not have been more desirable. It appears as if one family has risen to the top in order to purchase the defending champions.
Silicon Valley venture capitalist Vinod Khosla and his wife Neeru have spearheaded a group that is set to buy the Seattle Seahawks for $9.6 billion. Neeru is expected to serve as controlling owner, while the couple’s son, Neal, is expected to have a notable role in the group. Neal Khosla is the CEO of Curai.
“We are honored to be entrusted as the next stewards of the Seattle Seahawks,” Vinod Khosla said in a statement. “We look forward to building on the winning legacy Paul Allen created and to earning the trust of the Seahawks organization and fans everywhere.”

Vinod Khosla has been front and center as an early investor in some of the world’s largest technology companies. He invested in Google and OpenAI at primitive stages of their respective growth, and also made significant investments in DoorDash and Instacart. According to Forbes, Khosla’s net worth is just a shade under $14 billion.
“There are these singular characters in Silicon Valley who would feel a bit implausible if you constructed them in a work or fiction, but who turn out to in fact exist. The world is lucky Vinod is one of them,” said Stripe CEO Patrick Collision.
Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider and head coach Mike Macdonald were reportedly part of the interviewing process in the franchise’s quest for a new owner. It was important to the team that the new ownership group continued the type of atmosphere that was created in recent years that has helped lead them to the mountain top.
“I think the big point I should make here is that this is a team that has a certain culture,” said NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo. “And the belief is that this new ownership group, based on the estate of Paul Allen, believes that this group is going to match that culture.”
Fellow NFL Network insider Steve Wyche spoke more about how the Allen family elected to run the franchise.
“It’s pretty much a hands-off ownership culture that the Allen family has had,” Wyche said. “They let the football people run the football and the business people run the business and the ownership just kind of stands by. And that’s probably what they were looking for when you talk about maintaining a similar type of culture.

The Khosla’s purchase of the team is still subject to approval by the other NFL owners, but they should already be familiar with the family. They purchased an $8.5 million stake in the San Francisco 49ers last year, which is a holding that they will need to sell once their purchase of the Seahawks is finalized.
| Category | Details |
| The Historic Deal | The Khosla family, led by billionaire venture capitalist Vinod Khosla, has entered into an agreement to purchase the Seattle Seahawks for an astounding $9.612 billion. |
| NFL Record | If approved, this shatters the previous NFL record for a franchise sale, easily eclipsing the $6.05 billion paid by Josh Harris for the Washington Commanders in 2023. |
| Ownership Structure | While Vinod Khosla is the high-profile name associated with the deal, his wife Neeru Khosla will serve as the team's controlling owner, and their son Neal Khosla will take on a leadership role in the front office. |
| The Seller | The team is being sold by the estate of late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen (who bought the team in 1997 for $194 million). As required by Allen's wishes, Vinod Khosla noted that the massive proceeds from the sale are set to go to nonprofit and philanthropic efforts. |
| The Catch | Because the Khosla family previously purchased a 3.1% minority stake in the San Francisco 49ers in 2025, NFL league rules dictate that they must divest this interest before officially taking the helm in Seattle. |
| Next Steps | The transaction is pending a review and a ratification vote from the NFL owners, which is expected to take place in August ahead of the regular season. |
