Jury in civil case finds Donald Trump sexually abused E. Jean Carroll

A Manhattan federal jury has found that Trump sexually abused E. Jean Carroll in a luxury department store dressing room in 1996 and is liable for defamation for denying the claim and suggesting that Carroll made up the story to boost book sales. Carroll had filed the lawsuit under the “New York State Adult Survivors Act,” which opened a look-back window for sexual assault allegations with long-expired statutes of limitations. Trump has denied all wrongdoing and did not attend the trial. As a defendant in a civil case, he was not required to appear in court for trial or any proceedings and had the right not to testify in his own defense.
