Israel announced on Thursday that Commodore Alireza Tangsiri, the head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard’s navy, has been killed along with other senior naval commanders in a strike overnight.
Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz said Tangsiri was responsible for bombing operations that have blocked ships from crossing the Strait of Hormuz. He said the strike should serve as a “clear message” to top Iranian military officials that the Israeli military would hunt them down. Iran did not immediately acknowledge Tangsiri’s killing.
Meanwhile, Iran and the United States appeared at an impasse on Thursday, with each side hardening its position over talks and setting the stage for another potential escalation in the Middle East war. Thousands more U.S. troops have neared the region, while Tehran tightened its grip on the crucial Strait of Hormuz.
An Iranian army commander warned that any ground warfare would be “dangerous and costly for the enemy,” as sources say Iran has been preparing for a possible US operation to take control of Kharg Island, a major economic lifeline for Tehran.
President Donald Trump voiced frustration today with Iran’s approach to negotiations, warning that time is running out for a deal.
“The Iranian negotiators are very different and ‘strange.’ They are ‘begging’ us to make a deal, which they should be doing since they have been militarily obliterated, with zero chance of a comeback, and yet they publicly state that they are only ‘looking at our proposal.’ WRONG!!!” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post. “They better get serious soon, before it is too late, because once that happens, there is NO TURNING BACK, and it won’t be pretty,” he added.Israel says Iranian navy Commander killed in airstrike
