Pinch News

Software company Autodesk is gifting $5 million to Howard University for the University’s College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA). It’s the largest donation that the CEA has ever received. The generous donation aims to prepare students for an AI-powered workforce. AI will significantly impact the next generation of workers. Howard’s College of Engineering and Architecture is working to ensure students have the skill sets to fill the new positions that AI will create.

As tech and AI skills become more critical, many HBCUs are investing heavily in curriculums and programs that prepare students for a technology-centered workforce. Howard University also has a new state-of-the-art Design and Make lab, and funds from Autodesk will ensure the school has cutting-edge equipment, software, and experienced educators. The lab will debut later this year in the fall of 2024. The lab will allow students to turn their designs into prototypes. Howard University’s president stated, “We are immensely grateful for Autodesk’s gift to Howard’s College of Engineering and Architecture. Howard is a leader in graduating Black engineers, and this gift will expand our ability to provide our students with the best and latest resources.”
