HBCU Band Performs With Beyoncé in NFL Christmas Gameday Halftime Performance

The Texas Southern University Ocean of Soul Marching Band captivated audiences during a historic halftime show alongside superstar Beyoncé at the NFL Christmas Gameday, held at NRG Stadium on December 25. As the Houston Texans battled the Baltimore Ravens, the Ocean of Soul energized the crowd with their trademark sound and electrifying performance.

Renowned for their dynamic routines and musical excellence, the nearly 200-member band dazzled fans with vibrant choreography and powerful melodies. Their participation underscored the cultural significance and legacy of HBCU bands on major entertainment stages.

Beyoncé’s show, produced by Parkwood Entertainment and Jesse Collins Entertainment, marked her first live performance since the release of her chart-topping album, “COWBOY CARTER.” The setlist featured a medley of hits, including “16 CARRIAGES,” “BLACKBIRD,” and the viral sensation “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM.” The performance reached its peak as Beyoncé ascended to the rafters in a stunning finale.

The Ocean of Soul collaborated with Beyoncé and guest performers such as Post Malone and Shaboozey, while the Houston Texans Cheerleaders added extra flair to the event. The show also celebrated rodeo culture, honoring icons like cowboy legend Myrtis Dightman, Jr., dubbed the “Jackie Robinson of Rodeo,” Miss Rodeo Texas Princess 2004 Nikki Woodward, and Ja’Dayia Kursh, the first Black Rodeo Queen in Arkansas.
