HBCU AD accused of sexual assault

Dr. Kevin Granger, Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics at Texas Southern University (TSU), has been placed on administrative leave following a serious allegation of sexual assault. A TSU staff member filed a lawsuit through Houston attorney Tony Buzbee’s law firm, accusing Granger of asking explicit, inappropriate questions and making unwanted physical contact.

Texas Southern University confirmed Granger’s leave and announced the launch of an independent investigation to review the claims thoroughly. In a statement to HBCU Legends, the university emphasized its commitment to maintaining a safe environment for all members of its community, stating:

“In the coming days, you may see media coverage regarding allegations of misconduct involving a senior member of the Texas Southern University leadership team… We have initiated an independent investigation to ensure a fair and thorough review of the matter. The executive in question has been placed on administrative leave.”

While the university is not listed as a defendant in the lawsuit, the case has sparked significant discussion throughout the HBCU community. The situation raises ongoing concerns about leadership accountability and institutional transparency within HBCUs.

Dr. Granger is a former basketball star at TSU and has played a key role in building one of the most recognizable athletic programs in HBCU sports. His leadership has helped elevate the university’s athletic visibility on a national scale.

As this investigation continues, many within and beyond the Texas Southern community will be closely monitoring developments. The case highlights the need for strong ethical standards in collegiate leadership and serves as a reminder of the responsibility HBCUs have in fostering respectful, safe environments for all. HBCU Gameday will provide ongoing coverage and updates as the story evolves.
