House Republican Conference Chair Rep. Elise Stefanik filed an ethics complaint urging the removal of Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Arthur Engoron from the $250 million business fraud trial of former President Donald Trump. Stefanik alleged “clear judicial bias” and “bizarre behavior” by the judge, requesting the state’s Commission on Judicial Conduct to take corrective action. While the commission lacks the authority to remove specific judges, Stefanik’s move aligns with Trump’s efforts to challenge Engoron’s rulings. The trial, initiated by New York Attorney General Letitia James, focuses on allegations of inflating Trump’s assets. Engoron has already found the defendants liable for fraud.
