Freshman Rep. George Santos, whose finances and fabrications are under investigation, is facing new questions about the accuracy of the campaign reports filed during his unsuccessful 2020 bid for Congress. Santos’s 2020 filing shows that a person named Stephen Berger contributed $2,500 on July 31, 2020. Upon further review, the address for Stephen Berger actually belongs to a prominent Californian rancher, William Brandt. Brandt responded by confirming that the address listed is his but he never gave Santos a check as he “wouldn’t give him a dime.” He also stated that it is practically impossible for another person to have previously lived at the address because he built the home and has been there for over 40 years.
Federal prosecutors are currently still investigating his finances and looking for answers. As a result of the multiple inconsistencies being exposed, some of his fellow New York Republicans have called for his resignation which he has resisted.
I was elected to serve the people of #NY03 not the party & politicians, I remain committed to doing that and regret to hear that local officials refuse to work with my office to deliver results to keep our community safe and lower the cost of living.
I will NOT resign!
