Gas prices reach $4 per gallon as Trump lashes out at allies

As the Iran war continues to push fuel prices higher across the world, gas prices in the U.S. jumped past an average of $4 a gallon for the first time since 2022 on Tuesday. According to AAA, the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline is now $4.02 — over a dollar more expensive than it was before the war began on February 28. The last time the average price was this high was after Russia invaded Ukraine.

Higher gas prices put additional strain on households as they continue to face higher cost-of-living pressures. In addition to gas, Americans may be paying more on utility bills that are impacted by soaring fuel costs. This may force many to cut their budgets elsewhere and threaten broader economic consequences.

Meanwhile, Iran struck a key water and electrical plant in Kuwait, and an oil refinery in Israel came under attack. A drone hit a Kuwaiti oil tanker in Dubai waters, causing a fire that authorities were working to control early Tuesday, the Dubai Media Office said. Officials said there was “no oil leakage and no injuries reported.”

President Donald Trump expressed frustration with allies who have been unwilling to do more to support the U.S. war effort, telling them to “go get your own oil”, as the conflict with Iran and its closure of the Strait of Hormuz  Trump, who has vacillated between insisting there is progress in diplomatic talks with Iran and threatening to widen the war, directed blame at allies like the United Kingdom and France that have refused to enter the war.
