Samsung held its summer Galaxy Unpacked event on July 22, 2026, in London, marking the company’s first major UK-based launch in 14 years. The event introduced a redesigned foldable lineup, two new smartwatches, and a first look at upcoming smart glasses developed with eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker.
A New Shape for the Z Fold Line
The centerpiece of the event was the Galaxy Z Fold 8, which departs from previous generations with a wider, shorter form factor. When unfolded, the interior display is closer in proportion to a small tablet than past Fold models, a shift Samsung had teased ahead of the event under the tagline “A new shape unfolds.” Pricing for the Z Fold 8 starts at $1,900.
Alongside it, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, the first device to carry the “Ultra” branding within the Z series. Despite the name, the Fold 8 Ultra is closer in shape to last year’s Z Fold 7, featuring a slimmer profile, a triple camera system, and a silicon carbon battery. It starts at $2,100.
Z Flip 8 Gets Incremental Updates
The Galaxy Z Flip 8 retains a familiar look compared to its predecessor but includes a new hinge designed for smoother opening and closing, along with reductions in thickness, weight, and bezel size. The device also introduces a camera feature called Horizon Lock, aimed at improving stabilization during video capture. According to at least one widely cited industry leaker, the Z Flip 8 may be Samsung’s last small-format foldable, though Samsung has not confirmed any change to the flip line’s future.
Updated Galaxy Watches
Samsung also introduced the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, priced at $699, up from $649 for the previous model, and the Galaxy Watch 9, priced at $379, up from $349. Both watches are positioned as incremental updates within Samsung’s existing wearable lineup.
A First Look at Smart Glasses
Closing out the event, Samsung offered an early preview of its first smart glasses, developed in partnership with eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker. The glasses are built to compete in a wearable category currently led by Meta and will include Google Gemini Intelligence, enabling features such as summarizing surroundings and sharing information hands-free. Samsung has not yet announced a specific release date, only indicating availability later this year.
Availability
The Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra, Z Flip 8, Galaxy Watch 9, and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 are available for preorder now, with general availability beginning Friday, August 7, 2026.
