A federal jury has ruled that Donald Trump must pay E. Jean Carroll a total of $83.3 million in damages for defaming her. Carroll, a writer, accused Trump of raping her in a New York department store in the 1990s. The civil verdict comes on top of a $5 million sexual abuse and defamation verdict that Carroll won against Trump last year. The jury awarded Carroll $7.3 million for compensatory damages for emotional harm, $11 million for compensatory damages to her reputation, and an additional $65 million in punitive damages, finding that Trump acted maliciously. Trump has vowed to appeal the verdict.
