Coppin State fires men’s basketball coach Juan Dixon

Coppin State University has fired its head men’s basketball coach, Juan Dixon. Dixon is a former NBA player and All-America player at Maryland who took over the program ahead of the 2017-18 season. During the 2019-20 season, Coppin State won 11 games, its highest number of wins. However, the Eagles had their most success during the 2020-21 season when the program tied for the MEAC north division title during a shortened season. In December, Dixon came under fire for how he handled a situation with a former player filing a lawsuit against a former staff member. Former player, Ibn Williams, filed a lawsuit claiming that he was sexually assaulted and blackmailed by Lucian Brownlee, a former Coppin Guard who served as Director of Player Development and Director of Basketball Operations.

The Eagles have not had a winning season since the 2010-11 campaign.
