Clarence Thomas purchased luxury RV with help of former healthcare executive friend but he didn’t publicly disclose

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas received financial help from a healthcare executive, Anthony Welters, to purchase a Prevost Marathon recreational vehicle (RV) in 1999 for $267,230. Welters, who worked alongside Thomas in the Reagan administration, financed part of the RV purchase, but the exact amount and terms of the loan were not disclosed. Welters and his wife, Beatrice, later donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to former President Barack Obama’s campaign and inauguration. Thomas never publicly disclosed the financial assistance. This revelation adds to previous reporting showing Thomas accepting gifts valued at hundreds of thousands of dollars from another friend, Republican donor Harlan Crow. Calls for new ethics requirements for Supreme Court justices have emerged in light of these disclosures.
