Carrie Everett, former Miss North Carolina and a student at North Carolina Central University, has died after battling a rare, aggressive gastric cancer. She made history in 2024 as the first Miss North Carolina to attend an HBCU, becoming a powerful symbol of representation and opportunity.
A vocal performance major from Seattle, Everett used her platform to advocate for greater access and diversity in pageantry, encouraging young women—especially those at HBCUs—to pursue scholarship opportunities. Despite financial challenges, she credited her community for helping her succeed.
Diagnosed with metastatic cancer in 2025, Everett remained grounded in faith and continued using her voice to inspire others. She is remembered for her trailblazing impact, resilience, and commitment to opening doors for future generations.
