Board of Trustees names Dr. Marcus Thompson as next President of Jackson State University

The Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning has named Dr. Marcus L. Thompson as the 13th President of Jackson State University. Dr. Thompson, with over 20 years of leadership experience in education, currently serves as the Deputy Commissioner and Chief Administrative Officer of the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning. He has been responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the agency, managing all facets of the Mississippi public university system, and serving as a liaison between the IHL Commissioner’s Office and Mississippi’s eight public universities. Thompson, who earned a Ph.D. in urban higher education from Jackson State University, is set to take office on November 27, 2023.
