Ben Crump Donates $10,000 to Tennessee State University’s Historic Hockey Program

Civil rights attorney Ben Crump is stepping up to support Tennessee State University’s groundbreaking hockey program with a $10,000 donation.

rump’s contribution will aid TSU Hockey’s fundraising efforts as the team works toward a $5 million goal to fund scholarships, facilities, and operational costs for its first two seasons.

Founded in 2023, TSU’s hockey program is the first at the university and the first-ever Division I hockey team at a Historically Black College or University (HBCU).

“I am honored to support Tennessee State University as they break barriers and bring diversity to the sport of hockey,” Crump said. “This team represents more than just competition on the ice — it’s about expanding opportunities, challenging stereotypes, and paving the way for future generations of Black athletes in hockey. I encourage others to join me in this important cause and help TSU make history.”

TSU hired Duante Abercrombie as head coach in April 2024, marking another milestone in the program’s development.

“Tennessee State University is making history, and we’re also shaping the future of hockey,” Abercrombie said. “We are incredibly grateful for Attorney Crump’s generous support, and we hope others will join us in building something truly special.”
